Well, last week I spoke enthusiastically about the new season of Celebrity Poker. This week they went back to their previous format of medicore poker playing. Tonight’s players were Timothy Busfield, Mo Gaffney, Dule Hill, Danny Masterson, and James Woods. Timothy played last season during the West Wing episode (yawn) and I have no idea why he was invited back as he busted out due to novice play last season too. Woods and Masterson actually know how to play but Woods couldn’t buy anything even closely resembling a starting hand. Masterson went heads up with Dule Hill who either got dealt the killer hand or pulled some sort of amazing draw. Dule has a whole two weeks of experience playing poker but when the deck smacks you in the face as hard as it did Hill you could sit a dog in front of a stack of chips and it would win.
Some interesting stuff:
Tonight’s episode was a lesson in making your all-in bets count. Several people made the mistake of calling or only putting out a modest raise pre-flop with the best hand only to get a call and get drawn out on. Poker Pro Phil Gordon pointed out several times that you have to push all-in in those situations. If you make it too easy to call you’re just asking for trouble.
James Woods mentioned that he now plays either online or in a casino every single day. I saw him in some of the filler video they were showing of the WPT Invitational so he seems to be on the long list of celebs who have caught the poker bug recently.

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

That Error 404 page is too funny!!!!
Just wondering if Bill has been catching any of the new season episodes of Celebrity Poker Showdown. I remember seeing a rerun of the Wanda Sykes/Travis Tritt episode, and I haven’t seen a funnier episode since! Is that episode doomed to remain the most entertaining/funniest CPS episode ever? There has to be more coming and soon! (I hope) The best things I have since since then are when the three aces were flopped with Dave pulling the dealer away from the table and Phil getting out there to deal. Then there was Chris Kattan who just recently proved that not every celebrity can play poker. He had the Dave and Phil dolls, which were used by both Dave and Phil sometime during that show. Other than that, my only joy is watching Phil himself! His eyes are very soulful, and when he speaks, I just melt! lol ok enough mush… I just hope the eps from here on out are funnier. Championship round should be funny because of Brad Garrett and Jason Alexander. Oh well, here goes “something”….
