I’m killing some time playing $1/$2 on Paradise and this guy sits down with $525. When you sit down at the Paradise table it gives you a choice of the recommended $40 (which is the default selection for that limit) or you have to type in some other amount. Basically, what I’m getting at is that this guy went out of his way to sit down at a $1/$2 table with 263BB. There’s only two reasons someone would do this:
a) They’re new to the game and they think it’s impressive (i.e. this person is a huge fish waiting to be taken to the cleaners).
b) He’s really pessimistic about his game (i.e. this person is a huge fish waiting to be taken to the cleaners).
In case you’re wondering which one he turned out to be . . . he’s already down 25BB 30 minutes into the session.
Update: The fish just went on tilt. He’s raised pre-flop 7 of the last 10 hands and lost every single one. I took him on a particularly painful beat.

Final Pot: 10.75 BB
Main Pot: 10.75 BB, between UTG+2 and Hero. > Pot won by Hero (10.75 BB).
Results:
UTG+2 shows 4d 9c (one pair, sevens).

Outcome: Hero wins 10.75 BB.
The fish is currently down 50BB and shows no signs of stopping. Man, what a great day for me :-)

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

I think that bringing that much money to the table is usually somebody who plays much higher limits and has either gone on tilt or just trying to blow off some steam. But either way, you’re right, it’s a signal that you’re going to win a lot of money from this guy.
