I, um...sorta read his blog a little (I'm bored, OK?) and he explains himself in this post. http://www.dutchboyd.com/blog/2005/01/ebay-auction-day-1.html#comments
I guess I can understand the need for a backer...but still - eBay?? Can't wait to see who the winner is!

April, he does address the questions but not in any sort of meaningful way. Like I said, I know some people have a beef with the guy but I'm not one of them. It just seems odd that he's eBaying for a $3600 buy-in. I can understand that he wants to minimize his risk by looking for a backer but for someone has well known as he is, finding a $3600 backer just in his circle of friends and associates should be like asking your buddy for $5 for lunch. As for why he doesn't ask the crew for the money, well, I don't really think that response was a good one either. Nearly every pro working the tournament circut gets staked. Just by the very nature of the small community, you'll be "shitting in your own backyard."

I would actually be ok if he just said he was experimenting with a new form of matching stakers with players but his responses on his website seem a little light.

Maybe Dutch just wants a free trip to Europe??? If bidding gets to $5K and the buy-in is only $3,600 he comes out ahead even if he busts out. Sounds like a good deal to me!
