WPBT – May 11th Tourney

by Bill Rini on May 11, 2005

in Poker, WPBT

Ok, so now I’m positve that I have no desire to ever play on Noble Poker. Man, what a crappy piece of software. I’m sorry but it’s so bad it almost seems like a parody of a real site.

Come on, look at this avatar:

noble perv avatar WPBT May 11th Tourney

Tell me you haven’t seen a guy just like that checking into a hotel with a girl 1/3 of his age who he insists is his niece.

I don’t think the chips had been pushed to my opponent on my bust out hand before I was in the cashier requesting a full cash-out. Yech!

Here’s my beefs (in no particular order):

Sleezebag avatars. When I think about the kinds of guys who designed this and they’re sitting around going “Yeah, that one looks pretty slick” I just can’t help but imagine what kind of person would think they hit the nail on the head. I mean, Party doesn’t even try so you can’t fault them too much. FullTilt’s are kind of cool and some are just plain funny (in a good way). This is the online poker equivalent of spinning rims.

The voice sounds on there are just annoying. Yes, you called, you avatar doesn’t need to announce it. It actually confirms some of my thoughts about the people who picked the avatars. Lots-o-Glitz, baby! Make more flashy stuff!

Two players at our table were dealt blank cards (two different hands). They looked down and just saw white cards. I guess when that happens you have to click on them to make the cards appear. Real amateur! I can only imagine the other bugs this loser must have. But who has time to worry about stuff like that when you can add crazy mad sounds to the game?

Actually the entire thing is a software engineering disaster. What’s with the inability to have multiple windows open? If I click on my player stats, now I can’t do anything at the table. When I first signed up I got one of those annoying customer service pop-up chat windows telling me that if I hurried and made a deposit they would throw me an extra $10. Of course, I was in the middle of trying to make a deposit and the pop-up screen prevented me from actually depositing. You can’t just click the window underneath to regain focus. Once that chat window comes up you have to dismiss it to get back to what you were doing. Again, nice software design guys!

No hand histories. No ability to even cut and paste from the dealer chat window.

All in all, it’s a very amateur effort by people with no design or software engineering sense. Why is this sooooooo hard? Once you build the gaming engine this other stuff should be easy. It’s one thing if you site sucks as bad as Party but it’s a whole different thing when it seems you’ve gone out of your way to make it worse!!

You should really open up and tell us how you really feel :-P

I didn’t get to play tonight, and maybe I’m glad I didn’t. So, how’d you do?

Lookie here…us old fat guys in Hawaiian shirts need love, too.

I played earlier today before the tournament, and I gotta say, you’re all wrapped around the axle about minor annoyances (with one exception.) The sound can be turned on or off, and at the right level of sound settings, it’s pretty good. The lack of distinctive avatars is a minor annoyance with the Top View — no better or worse than Party or any other joint. I do like the big cards (being an old guy with less-than-eagle eyes). The slider can use some work, but by clicking in the text box, I type in what I want, anyway. I just X’ed the goofy chat, so it wasn’t a problem.

But blank cards are bad (the exception). I didn’t have them at all in four hours of play today, but I would be pretty hot about that. I’ve had similar problems at Party (the ‘no click’ effect), and just X’ed right out to get rid of it. It’s software, crap breaks, what are you gonna do? Frex, TypeKey has yet to remember me, even on the same blog. I don’t play enough multi-table, so that’s no huge concern to me. I realize it might be to others, though.

All in all, though, for my first visit to Noble, I already like it as much as Party, software-wise. I’m VERY happy with the big cards, a problem I have at FT. And, I gotta admit, it’s nice having an avatar that actually looks like me. heh heh

Scott,

I think I’m with -EV on this one:

Noble Poker’s interface blows comeplete donkey dick, by the way. Amount of -EV’s action that will go to Noble in the future: 0%.

Well, digustubus non disputandum. I’d just as soon you sharps stay out of my way anyway. I have a hard enough time…

All valid points Bill.

But….I confess to liking it. And the players are pretty bad…

If you can stand the software, the games are very very soft.

But… one thing I don’t like is that damn slider bar thingy and the inability to bet the amount you want by typing it in.

I have $400+ left in bonus cash there, but I won’t be clearing it. Too much work.
