My boss knows a little something about poker. In fact, several years ago he came up with his own poker game that has become somewhat of a favorite amongst the BARGE and RGP crowds. You likely won’t find Chowaha spread at any casino but you might just want to try it out at your next home game.
I thought I would do a little write up on it as I have a feeling Mr. Chow just might call a Chowaha game at some point in the near future and I figure the best way to learn the game is to write about it.
Much like Hold ‘Em, each player is dealt two down cards. After a round of pre-flop betting, the dealer deals three flops. Yes, you read that correctly, the dealer deals three flops!!! This is followed by another round of betting. The turn is 2 cards followed by a round of betting and the river is a measly single card with a round of betting.
Confused? Ok, here’s a diagram I put together:
Notice that you can play four different boards. The middle flop is the only one that gives you the opportunity to use either turn card.
You must use both your hole cards and three cards from one of the four boards to make the best five card hand. Normally the game is played with a hi-low, 8 or better qualifier set of rules but there is a high only version which is called Casino Chowaha. You can use two different boards to make your high and low hands.
Anybody up for a game?

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

Never again will I bitch about reading a PLO8′s board.
Looks fun! I would really love to see another game go mainstream..maybe this is the one!
Looks like Crazy Pineapple on speed!
I’m up for it. But only if Eva’s mixing the drinks. There is no way you can play that game sober.
I’d play that game in a heartbeat. My gut tells me that Omaha players would be able to get up to speed fast on this game. We are used to seeing boards with 20 outers.
Fantastic diagram!
Talk about small margins.
So Board four has a straight flush possible, but no royal since you have to use both hole cards?
Aye, aye aye.
