It’s only Thursday and it’s already been a tough week on several levels. The company just launched a major project and I have a significant milestone coming up on another project on Monday. On top of that, I have yet another project going into beta next week so the stress level is already pumped up.
Oh, and the WPBT Winter Classic tournament starts in 39 hours.
But I can’t think about any of that because Howard Lederer, Chris Jesus Ferguson, and Perry Friedman have popped into our weekly tournament and I’ve drawn a table with Mr. Ferguson. After a round of Knob Creek that Chris cracked open, I mostly fold my way into a table change.
I’ve been selected as the lucky recipient of a seat at the table with Howard Lederer who is in the process of busting another WPBT Winter Classic player who is in a hurry to bust out so he can get on the road to Vegas. Unfortunately, for me, his strategy of pushing every hand resulted in him busting out three other players and now that he was giving those chips to Howard I was in a world of hurt.
I watched as UTG limped for $100 and Howard comes in raising for $500. Hanel pushes for about $1200 and UTG just calls. Howard goes into the tank and mucks his jacks face up as he shakes his head. Hanel shows pocket kings and UTG shows pocket aces. Bye, bye Poker Geek.
I lasted to the first break and as is normal when I can’t get any momentum going, I busted soon after the break.
Now, a quick stop home to pick up my luggage and I’m off to Sin City. Wait, there’s an email from Linda saying that Barry Greenstein wants to come and speak before the tournament on Saturday. Whoo hoo.

World Poker Blogger Tour Winter Classic 2 – Part 3

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

I was so scared when this site was down. I read this thing everyday…errr…although the posts have been coming in later and later and less frequent…yes, you are up and running again. I want to be a computer nerd to have my page down for repairs…but alas, I’m just a plain oh…blogspot Geek with no imagination to put up cool counters and stuff.
Rini, it was great talking to you in private about our games and you always get my big head thinking of angles to take on looking at hands and so forth.
