I posted earlier this month about the Bloggies nominations and unsurprisingly, not a single poker blog was nominted. Of course, go fug yourself, a site devoted to mocking celebrities, was nominated for three. Not to take anything away from go fug yourself, but Best American Weblog, Best Entertainment Weblog, and Best Writing of a Weblog? I’m going to go out on a limb here and speculate that the entire universe of blogs wasn’t up for consideration if one blog can win three nominations.

The Top 10 Poker Blogs

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

Bill,
When you get a second, check out my response to your comment on my blog. I clarified a bit as I don’t think you had grasped my concept completely…
Thanks for commenting…I love the input.

As a former Bloggies panelist, I can tell you that what happens is there are thousands of nominations put in for each category, then the categories are split up and sent out to the various panel members. Each member is receiving hundreds of links from which to select their top 5 or so. I can guarantee you many people are just looking for the URLs they recognize, and then pushing those through. I made an effort to actually visit and evaluate the sites I had, and found some that I really enjoyed. But I’m betting that most people don’t do that, because as we know, there is a lot of crap out there and at a certain point you just get sick of looking at it all. Only the biggest blog junkie would take the time to look at them all.
The awards have always had a “wtf??” kind of element to them, but I see that this year it’s even worse. There is an mp3 blog up for Best Teen Blog and another for Best Writing. Uhhh….ok. And Cute Overload as blog of the year? I get the feeling there were a lot of teenage girls on the panel this year…
