I received an email today from a reader who informed me that some chucklehead decided to rip off my Online Poker Is Rigged post and slap it on a message board as his own work. Even funnier was when someone pointed out that the guilty party posted on another site that he was hiring people to post on one of his sites and that he had the following criteria for this dream job:
Spam, copy-paste and nonsense posts will be disregarded and you will be suspended if you do so - I have had a lot of bad experiences with people doing this in the past and I am VERY strict on it.
Maybe he doesn’t like paying other people to steal content because he can do that all by himself.
Anyway, his post gets picked up on digg and I get an influx of visitors. Some of those, obviously, have no sense of humor as I received an intellectually stimulating email exchange which I’ve posted below along with my response below:

I responded:
Sir,
I’m very sorry you were born without a sense of humor. I’ve long been a contributor to Asshats Without Borders which attempts to help those born with your affliction. Thank you for letting me know that there is still more work to do.

HA….Then yet again your a sack of shit. Thanks for the joke. Its people like you speading rumors like that are stupid. Its just plain dumb. And I don’t see the humor in that. Its not funny. Its like me telling you I am going to find you and RIP your nut sack off. HAHAH FUNNY! Thats a joke!

To be honest though, I don’t buy his excuse. He had to cut and paste and create links to the graphics off my site. In other words, he either cut and paste the HTML source or he cut and paste the text and then did a properties on the images to find their location. Either way, he knew damn well were the source was.
I would be more inclined to believe he forgot to put the link. That’s an easy mistake and if the forum software doesn’t allow you to edit your post . . . then that’s something I can buy into. I don’t see any circumstance where he obtained the content and didn’t know where he got it from though.

Ingoal added these pithy words on Mar 08 06 at 5:27 pmI guess you’re right about that. After looking at the thread I think that he just copied and pasted the whole thing…so this (almost certainly) is a “hand caught in the cookie jar”-type weak excuse, but at least there’s a link up there now…
On another note: I guess the only way to prevent ppl from not only stealing your content but stealing your bandwidth along with it is to prevent hot-linking in the first place…(then again it might not be worth the hassle if you’re sharing stuff with other sites and/or if your bandwidth is unmetered)…

Yeah, I have some .htaccess file stuff in there to block hotlinking but I do have stuff that I want people to be able to use sometimes too. That’s one of the reasons I’ve slowly been moving my non-template images off to Flickr.
That was just an old directory that was from way, way back (2004) before I moved stuff over to WordPress.

not as cool as the like of Al’s, Pauly’s or your blog, but I’m getting there, after all I’m fairly new to the circle.
The really cool thing is that there’s always something going on if you’re “hanging out” (online) with the poker blogger bunch (Waffles, Garthmeister, Veneno,…) and playing in the poker blogger tourneys (WWdN, DADI, …)
