I was donking around on the online felt this weekend and was at a very, very aggressive limit table. It wasn’t uncommon to see 6 people in a capped pre-flop pot. I pick up 88 in EP with a limper in front of me and limp as I know that it’s going to get raised behind me, my raise isn’t going to drive anyone out, and if I hit a flop I’m going to make a mint.
Flop comes:
83x
Checked to me and I bet. Like I said, I’m not killing any action at this table. I’m getting called by any overs and maybe popped for a raise by ace high. I get a caller and a raise behind me. It ends up getting capped on the flop.
8
I check and the guy to my left bets. LP calls. I raise, the original bettor re-raises, LP folds and we cap the turn.
River is a blank.
I bet and the guy to my left raises.
Should I fold here? He has to have a pretty strong hand here.
Just kidding.
I raise, we cap the river and he shows pocket threes for a boat.

The Lighter Side of Poker

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
