Here’s one I haven’t seen anybody address:
Let’s say that I run XYZ Poker and tell the US government to piss-off. I continue to run my business and accept US customers after Bush signs the bill.
The law states that the criminal penality is up to 5 years imprisonment. Is that per offense? Could a site operator really be facing 10,000 deposits x 5 years per day?

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

Aren’t they in violation with every wager accepted?
One limit HE hand could rack up a few decades worth of jail time.
Why worry? After the first century, it’s all a freeroll.
Heh, hard to say, though any poker site is going to be screwed for more years than their entire staff can donate in jail time anyways..
This law is nice on paper, but they’re gonna end up spending more money preventing online gambling than Americans were spending on it in the first place. At least the poker players had a chance at earning a return on their investments.
Grr.
Seems like all this UIGEA hoopla is just a precursor to the humongous land-based casinos eliminating the competition before they join the game. Online poker will be legalized and taxed, but we’ll be playing at bellagio.com instead of party. In the meantime, we the players are labelled criminals and left jonesing for some action.
I feel like a middle child in the middle of a nasty divorce. There’s a lot of anger, finger-pointing and claims to having MY best interests in mind… but I’ve just shit myself and am crying in the corner, and nobody seems to notice or care.
