My Neteller Experience

My Neteller experience is a little unique because I live outside of the US. When I first got here I tried to use my US Neteller account and they promptly closed my account because they knew I was not in the US. I called them up and got things turned back on but I figured it was probably a good idea to have a local Neteller account. So I opened up a new Neteller account with all my local info and they shut it down the moment I tried to login. I called them up and explained that I was an American and I did have a US account but that if they were going to hassle me on my US account I just thought it better to have a local one. No can do. Can’t have two accounts. So I ask to keep the Gib one and they shoot that down saying that I should just keep the US one but they would turn off IP checking so I should have no future problems. Coolio.

Now with all this US stuff going on I figure it’s a good time to get that old account un-Americanized. I call them up and they tell me I need to send a bank statement or utility bill with my address on it. No problemo. I scan a bank statement and fire it off to the email address they gave me. So I don’t hear anything back. I call them back up the next day and they offer to close the US account and open the Gib one. Sweet! I get handed off to some new dude, Jason, who tells me that they can’t let me open the Gib one because I’m a US citizen. WTF?!? I tell him that I think he’s wrong about the citizenship requirement and that I’m a resident of Gib and have a work permit, papers, etc. No can do. No citizenship, no account. I politely ask to speak to the boss man and he puts Christina on the phone. I explain the situation and she asks if I’m a legal resident of Gib. I be. She tells me that all they need is the bank statement and everything is hunky-dory. It might take 7 days for their people to sift through the email and find it but they’ll fire me off an email when I can use the new Gib account.

So, I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Either way I’m good because I can always fund my accounts using my foreign debit card. Unfortunately, sites like Full Tilt don’t support Swift and Solo so I’m not sure I can withdraw to it. The Neteller desire is just so I can withdraw without too many hassles.

The funny part is just before I moved here I flew out to visit my dad and took my home PC with me. I set it up at his place and figured I could always remote desktop into it if I ever needed to pretend to be in the US. I thought there might be a benefit to being in the US. Now I have to fight tooth and nail to not be considered to be in the US.
