While most of the poker media has been focused on how the Neteller saga has impacted online poker rooms and players, little attention is being focused on the plight of pop-icon Britney Spears. Though rumors that Britney played a little Hold’em have been circulating for years she’s stayed out of the poker spotlight dominated by celebs turned poker players. Until now.

Britney’s recent bizzare behavior has perplexed Hollywood watchers and fans but when you study the timeline of her breakdown it becomes obvious that she’s a poker player at heart.
On Feb 2nd PokerStars payment processor Chexx was rumored to have abandoned it’s relationship with Pokerstars. On Feb 4th Britney is reported to have broken off her relationship with her beau-du-jour Issac Cohen.
On Feb 8th Neteller admits that the DOJ had seized up to $55 million in funds after arresting two of the company’s founders. A mere week later Britney shaves her head in Los Angeles in a show of solidarity.

On Feb 19th it’s reported that Doyle’s Room will be exiting the US market. Later that same day the story is retracted. Later, later that day the story is made official. On Feb 21st Britney checks herself into a rehab clinic. On Feb 22ndt Britney leaves the rehab center. On Feb 23rd Britney checks herself back into a rehab center.
Britney is a young woman who has demonstrated an uncanny ability to make smart decisions. And considering that according to Bodog Britney is the most common name mentioned in a survey of 12,000 online poker players regarding who they would most like to play in a must-win Texas Holdem poker tournament, this observation may not be as far fetched as it sounds.

What the heck, if you’re going to fabricate a rumor you can do much better than having Doyle Brunson in it . . . unless you have Doyle and Britney in the same rumor! That’s for another post though.

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
