While getting paid in British pound sterling has been pretty nice with the dollar getting hammered some things remain expensive on this side of the pond.
In the photo below at a BMW dealership near my apartment you can see the price being asked for this 5 Series BMW is £36,795.
At today’s exchange rate of $1.99 to the pound that puts this car at $73,222. Now, a quick check on Edmunds.com for ZIP code 90292 (Marina del Rey, CA) and the base price of this car ranges from $44,300 – $58,500. With no particular special features listed on the vehicle and if we assume this is the top of the line 550i (I couldn’t see the rear of the vehicle for the specific model) we’re talking a minimum 25% premium over prices in Marina del Rey. If it’s the base model (which is most likely) it’s a 65% premium.

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
