Every Saturday night my kids go to a sitter and its “date night” with my husband. Date night usually consists of eating and/or poker. In an effort to mix it up, I bought tickets to see Diceman (Andrew Dice Clay) at the Riveria. My husband’s a big fan, and I always enjoy a good comedy show. Since the show did not start until 11:00pm we decided to hit up the Wynn poker room on our way. I love Wynn’s poker room. They have a $1/3 game for me and a $2/5 game for my husband. The room has easy access (right off the parking lot), the dealers are excellent, the food is delicious… Not to be a Wynn Poker room infomercial, but it’s truly a fantastic place to play poker!
As I was approaching my table, I was stoked to see an open seat next to a young woman. We started talking as soon as I sat down and didn’t stop. Before I knew it, she was crying. She had been engaged to some jerk that totally had another girlfriend. This other girl had found her through Facebook and ratted out the cheater. While I was looking forward to a night of laughing I was so delighted to meet this girl, listen to her problems, and offer my advice.
We women need each other in the poker room. The bonding I encountered was so satisfying. I have a full time job, three kids and this awesome hobby – but I yearn for “friends” that share my interests! I wish my nights out at the poker room were more often like this one than not. Beside, I cashed out $600. Pretty impressive considering my focus was not entirely on the game.
They Wynn Classic is coming up in February. I can’t wait to play. Not only is it my favorite room in Vegas, the tournament is a lot of fun and well run. They’ve added some new events this year I’m really looking forward to playing. If you make it, don’t miss out on the yogurt parfait – it’s truly the best in town. I’m going to email my new friend and hope she’ll play in an event with me. I’d like to swap a piece of each other, she played her ass off the night I met her.

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
