Looks like Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has earned a little money to help pay off his $2 million weight loss prop bet with Ted Forrest. Now he’s just $1,900,000 short.
Not according to Mike though:
So, I guess Mike is saying that he’s already paid off Forrest. True? Hard to say based on a single tweet which seems to be a bit angry.
It’s also unclear what he means about digging into his finances. Digging sounds like someone who is actively investigating you. I haven’t seen anything where people seemed to be digging. On the other hand, if the original interview is accurate he said he didn’t have the money. It’s not exactly digging into someone’s finances when they do an interview and announce they don’t have enough to pay off a prop bet.
Whatever. If he has, good on him. If he hasn’t, I hope – for Ted’s sake – he does. And if he won’t, bad form.

Matusow Can’t Pay Prop Bet?

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

My gut reaction is that Mike doesn’t have two nickles to rub together. On the other side of that I see Ted as being pretty savvy when it comes to making these bets so I really don’t think he would go to all the trouble without being 100% sure he would get paid.
Mike tends to cash a bit but he still seems prone to donking the money off so I think Ted’s strategy is to collect his installments by walking Matusow to the cage every time he makes a little.
I am in no way in the know, but I thought I heard it reported they negotiated a settlement to the bet even before it was over.
@Soop: If that’s true then they played the poker press like a harmonica which was one of my points. These huge or crazy prop bets are solely for the media. If you can’t win a tournament then make a crazy prop bet and tell the 100 or 200 media sitting around with the WSOP with nothing exciting to write about.
