The Week(s) That Was

The other day I ran across this video of WPT CEO, Steve Heller, being interviewed about some of the changes coming to the WPT. I guess I missed when they announced that Heller was taking over as CEO. I used to work for Steve when I was at Party so I dropped him a line congratulating him. He emailed back saying that the timing of my email was funny because he had just read what I wrote about Party purchasing the WPT. Ooops. 🙂

Actually, I wasn’t too harsh on them. From the video interview and my conversation with Heller it looks like they’re looking to avoid some of the possible pitfalls I mentioned in my blog post. If there was one person in the entire Party organization who has the right skills to run the WPT Steve is the guy.

I’ll write up something more in depth later.

Heading to Vietnam . . . Maybe

I need to do a visa run and had been planning on heading over to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). I went down to the Vietnam embassy today (which is, ironically, across the street from the US embassy) but found out that they were closed Monday and Tuesday for Buddhist Lent.

According to what I’ve read on the internet it’s a 3 day turnaround for the Vietnam visa and I was hoping to leave next Monday so that’s cutting it a little close. They do offer an expedited visa (supposedly next day) for a fee so I may have to go that route.

The other option is that there are a few websites that offer to obtain a visa on arrival for you. Basically the way it seems to work is that they apply on your behalf and then they email you an approval letter which states that immigration has your visa waiting for you when you arrive in Vietnam (if you’re arriving by air). That lets you board the plane from wherever you’re departing from and once you land in Vietnam you go to immigration and they put the stamp in your passport.

Only problem is I’m not sure if I apply what embassy or immigration they’ll use. For instance, there are a few of these service providers based out of Thailand but if they apply to the embassy in Bangkok there won’t be anybody there to process the form and I’m right back where I started having to pay for expedited service (plus the fee to the agency).

So, I may or may not be going to Vietnam. Either way I have to leave somewhere so Laos (I’ve never been) and Cambodia (I’ve been once).
