Ok, by my count we’ve got Vegas leading the way 23 to 10 over New Orleans. I did have to double-count the people who made non-commital responses (i.e. New Orleans is cool but I like Vegas too) but unless there’s a sudden surge of voting for NO, it looks like Vegas is the clear winner.
Joaquin suggested that some of y’all might want to post something on your blogs to point voters this direction in case other bloggers want to vote but don’t read this blog regularly (or at all). Those of you hoping for a NO comeback might want to consider that (Joaquin is pulling for NO so that may have been his motivation for this suggestion). Then again, you Vegas fans might want to do it to keep the NO people from hijacking the vote :-)
Now the next question goes to time. Last year’s was in December. Chris said he hates that timing. CJ can’t do Nov. Being the slave to meetings that I am, I’m fairly familiar with the theory that the greater the number of people the less likely you are to find a time that works for everyone. So, what does work? I say we throw out some choices and do the voting thing again. Keep in mind though that we’re probably more likely to score some pros hanging out with us if a major event is in town. With that in mind, I’ll throw out dates for some upcoming tournaments*:
October 8 to 20, 2005 Fiesta al Lago IV Poker Tournament (Bellagio, Las Vegas)
October 23 to 27, 2005 Doyle Brunson’s North American Poker Championship – WPT Season 4 (Bellagio, Las Vegas)
December 13 to 17, 2005 Five-Diamond World Poker Classic II – WPT Season 4 (Bellagio, Las Vegas)
Nothing going on in Sept, Nov, or Jan. Nothing going on in NO.

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.

Gawd, it’s case-sensitive, too.
The earlier in October, the better. I positively can’t do November/December: quarter-end, year-end, and federal spending season. Am I the only salesdork around here???
I’d rather be there in Rocktober than December, so I’m open to either of those tournament weekends in Vegas.
Anytime in October sounds good to me.
Date:
I vote for the weekend of Columbus Day which is Monday, October 10 – a holiday – for those of us who have just about maxed out leave time, any extra days that can be sqeezed for free would be a ‘ngyen-ngyen’ situation (sorry, couldn’t resist).
Location Choice:
1. Nyawlins
2. Vegas
3. Tunica
VEGAS BABY! that’s my vote. :)
Just to put a suggestion in the latest post–
How about smaller, mutiple get-togethers in different regions throughout the year with a yearly BIG bash in Vegas at a date most indicate they can make. Most of us are within driving distance of some type of casino/fun area and the locations can be timed towards avoiding bad weather. New Orleans in the early spring to avoid oppressive heat/humidity. Foxwoods in the Fall to allow for comfortable walking weather in the nearby seaside towns and good foliage. Minnesota in August to avoid any chance of snow. LA anytime coz the weather’s the same everday.
This would give local bloggers the chance to show off their local venues/attractions by acting as hosts for us hicks. Imagine taking a party bus to NYC from Foxwoods to spend a day with Pauly as your host to show you around. Now that’s a party.
I vote for the Oct 23-Oct 27. That way whenever I play I can demand everyone fold to me, since it’s my birthday. :)
I agree with April (except for that whole fold to her part…). I like that weekend since I already have plans to be in Vegas Oct 22-Oct 24th.
Wes’ idea sounds good.
October is always a good month.
How ’bout we just play online together? On Party perhaps? We can still be drunk. Gugh.
I’m abstaining from voting as I’ll pretty much go anywhere anytime to parlay my hard earned cash into bad-beat stories to share with the world.
I’m o.k. with anytime.
I still vote for the NO…although I think it gives the West Coast people an unfair homefield advantage. We are bringing it back to the East next time.
oh, unfair if it’s Vegas is what I wanted to say
Anytime, anywhere. Somebody try and get us a group rate in the same hotel (MGM?! Aladdin?) Let’s us our power as a group to get us a discount. Tell them we’ll take over the poker room if they let us. We have the power to cut ourselves a good deal as a group, right?
I’m open to any dates right now, BUT….
The Doyle Brunson WPT event is being held at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, not LV – according to the info I got from Oliver Tse. Maybe that has changed, so check with him.
The WPT website lists the event location as “TBA”, and the Bellagio is hosting a WPT event in December, so I doubt they would host 2 events in less than 2 months.
Wah? The Brunson event is being held at Fallsview? How could I not have heard about that? I’ll definitely be there if that is the case.
I’ll probably follow the party wherever is leads, but would probably choose Vegas if forced to make a decision.
Did a little poking around and pokerpages.com has the DBNAC listed as happening at the Bellagio, but the WPT site has the venue listed as TBD. I would be surprised if we had a WPT event here in Canada, despite the lobbying being done by some of the casinos.
I did a quick search of CPF (http://www.pokerforum.ca/forum/index.php) and there was a rumour (http://www.pokerforum.ca/forum/index.php?topic=2231.0) floating around last year that they’d be holding the event somewhere in Ontario, but hardly anything I can credit.
And I’m probably far more interested in this topic than the other readers here, so I’ll just let it go.
Vegas works for me and I’ll make the date work as well.
October for me, either date. Being an odd year I’ll be out of the country during December.
Well, I was going to say December, but it looks like I’ve already been outvoted.
Having missed the last one, I’ll be there no matter when it is.
I am with Blood. Anytime, anywhere they have beer.
I’m up for Vegas in October… if I could earn a few bucks on the tables :P
Vegas in October? Count me in in in!
October in Vegas sounds good — but please note that 10/3-10/4 (Fri-Sat) is Rosh Hashanah and 10/12-10/13 (Sun-Mon) is Yom Kippur.
I prefer Vegas over NO.
I also like the idea of doing this in true convention style. Maybe work a deal with the MGM for a block of rooms at a discount plus an additional poker rate. Plus comps to the “Grand Buffet”
I really like the idea of regional events at places such as Tunica, AC, Foxwoods,NO etc. We even have a couple of casinos here in STL.
My preference is whatever weekend I can get approved by the wife. I’ll have to start earning brownie points now, thanks for the heads up.
