All the cool kids are doing the 4 Things About Los Angeles meme so why not (besides, I’m hard up for something to write about at the moment).
I’ve lived in LA my entire life except for three year while I was in the military and lived in Germany. I’m not one of those people who has a love affair with the city though. I grew up here. LA just seems normal to me. I don’t gawk at stars. I don’t want to be in television or film. I’m not in a rock band. I don’t need to live in a city where I can die my hair pink and still be considered normal. For me it’s just the place where I was born, grew up, live, and work.
Four Jobs I’ve Had In My Life in LA:
- Domino’s Pizza delivery guy (back in the day when it was 30 minutes or free)
- Movie extra (Barbarian’s At The Gate and Dave)
- Stockbroker
- IT Donkey
Four Movies About LA I could Watch Over And Over
- To Live and Die in LA
- The Big Lebowski
- Less Than Zero
- Pulp Fiction
Four Places I’ve Lived All Over LA (With Food Memories From Each):
- Burbank: Too many to name. Tommy’s at 2am. Bob’s Big Boy after a high school football game. Giamella’s Italian Subs anytime.
- Pacific Palisades: Kay and Dave’s for breakfast every Sunday with my roommates.
- Marina del Rey: Za Zen (now renamed something else) anytime for drinks and Japanese/Thai fusion cuisine.
- Westwood/West LA: Since I eat at Westwood Brewing Company three nights a week, it’s a default choice.
Four LA-Themed Shows I Love(d) to Watch:
- 24
- The Shield
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Moesha . . . just kidding, The Larry Sanders Show
Four Places I would Vacation in LA:
- Shutters in Santa Monica
- Camping at Leo Cabrillo Beach in Malibu
- Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey
- If Jessica Alba’s bedroom isn’t available, W in Westwood
Four LA-Based Websites I Visit Daily
This is messed up because I visit far more than four LA-based website daily. Whoever I leave off the list is likely to assume I don’t read them.
- Jason Calacanis
- Wil Wheaton (also on CardSquad)
- Obituarium
- Hanel
Four Of My Favorite Foods Found In LA:
- Tito’s Tacos in Culver City. There’s a reason the place has a line around it every hour it’s open.
- Pink’s Hot Dogs on La Brea. Again, lines around the block for this place all day and all night. Also available at Hollywood Park Casino now :-)
- Lobster Ravioli at Il Morro off of Olympic
- Kaya Sushi on the Culver City, Marina del Rey border. I don’t know why I like this place as much as I do.
Four Places In LA I Would Rather Be Right Now:
- Sitting on the patio at Shutters drinking a good single malt and smoking a cigar
- 80 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean
- Walking down Venice Beach watching the freaks
- Zuma Beach in Malibu
Tagged:
- Brian May
- Mike (he’s on his way to relocating to Japan but what the heck)
- Joaquin (former LA’er)
- Alan

No Way To Run Things

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
