Considering all the people getting tossed in jail for running home games and such I found this story of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Crime Stoppers, handing out poker chips and playing cards to inmates getting out of prison.
Inmates who are being booked out of jail will receive poker chips that have been modified to include the Crime Stoppers’ Crime Reporting tip line, 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
The idea behind the half dollar size red disks is to remind inmates to spread the Crime Stopper message, after they leave the jail, no matter how long they stay, even if the inmate has bonded out immediately.
Inmates in the Polk County Jail are given decks of Crime Stopper Cold Case playing cards that display a number of unsolved crimes that have occurred in Polk County. In addition to the cards, a continuously looped video displaying unsolved crimes is shown on jail television monitors.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the poker chip is something they can keep in their pocket to reinforce the Crime Stopper message when they leave.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is the first agency distributing the poker chips.
“It’s not a gamble to turn in a criminal, it’s a sure bet,” Judd said.
Is there anything poker can’t do?

Hi, my name is Bill Rini and this is my poker blog. I've been blogging about poker and the poker industry since around 2003-ish. Like most people I started out playing poker as entertainment in home games whenever we wanted to sit around and smoke cigars, drink beer, and eat pizza, and needed a good excuse. I started playing online shortly after the first online card rooms opened and it wasn't long before I was playing 20, 30, or even 40 hours a week or more. One day I received a phone call about a program manager position at Tiltware which was the company that consulted to Full Tilt Poker on software development and marketing. After Tiltware I spent about 2.5 years working at Party Poker where I was the poker room manager.
